BATON ROUGE – As part of its commitment to make a difference in the lives of people, the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) officially adopted Park Elementary School in a special ceremony today. The event also highlighted the agency’s partnership with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.
“Investing in young people today will pay off tomorrow because they are Louisiana’s next generation workforce,” said LWC Executive Director Curt Eysink. “But just as importantly, Park Elementary and its students and families are our neighbors and we want to play a bigger role in our neighborhood."
Park Elementary is located at 2700 Fuqua Street, just four blocks from the LWC offices. LWC has committed to supporting the school through volunteer efforts and special activities for students, including reading mentors, a book drive, poster contest and job shadowing.
The ceremony was held in the school’s library and included a song and poem by Park Elementary students, along with remarks from school board and LWC officials. Also participating were community partners, local elected officials and Park Elementary administration, parents and teachers. The event culminated with the signing of the school adoption certificate.
