BATON ROUGE — First Quarter data on Louisiana’s employment and wages for 2013 are now available on the Louisiana Workforce Commission’s website, www,laworks.net.
This report covers employment and total wages by North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) sectors and sub-sectors for the state and by NAICS sectors for all parishes. The information comes from quarterly tax reports submitted by all employers subject to the Louisiana Employment Security Law and from supplemental reports giving parish data submitted by employers with multiple locations. Information is available on statewide, regional, metropolitan statistical areas, and parish levels.
Employers whose data are included are those who pay unemployment insurance taxes and who count filled jobs – whether full or part-time, temporary or permanent – by place of work.
According to these data, Louisiana’s average covered employment in the first quarter 2013 totaled 1,873,709, a decrease of 0.9 percent from the fourth quarter 2012 total of 1,891,285. Employment rose 1.1 percent from the first quarter 2012 total of 1,854,199. The average weekly wage for the first quarter 2013 was $847.
Employers seeking plant sites can use the data to compare employment and average weekly wages paid by industry in potential locations. Market researchers use the data for market and consumer analysis. Public and private organizations use the data in the administration and evaluation of manpower programs and policies.
To access the Excel files for the First Quarter 2013 Employment and Wages Data, go to www,laworks.net, select Labor Market Information, and under LMI Products select Employment and Wages – Quarterly.
