BATON ROUGE – Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending May 17, 2014, increased to 2,343 from the previous week’s total of 2,209. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending May 18, 2013, figure of 2,738.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 2,266 from the previous week’s average of 2,168.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending May 17, 2014, decreased to 18,517 from the previous week’s total of 18,897. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending May 18, 2013, figure of 20,735.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 18,815 from the previous week’s average of 18,935.
