BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Oct. 14, 2017 decreased to 2,317 from the previous week’s total of 2,409. For the comparable week a year ago, ending Oct. 15, 2016, 2,674 initial claims were filed.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 2,255 from the previous week’s average of 2,234.
The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending Oct. 14, 2017 decreased to 18,450 from the previous week’s total of 18,607. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 24,285 for the week ending Oct. 15, 2016.
The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 19,130 from the previous week’s average of 19,612.

With her graduation date from Nunez nearing, and needing financial assistance, Gabriella Jessie walked into the St. Bernard Business and Career Solutions Center for help. Because of the LWC’s on-site help, Ms. Jessie was provided a stipend for her enrollment and as a result, able to get back on track for graduation.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) has countless tools both in person and online to help claimants file and process their claims. This is in addition to the agency’s 59 local offices statewide, job fairs, training programs, apprenticeship opportunities and numerous other services.
Updates to the LWC’s unemployment information processing system are still being implemented. As a result, the following data are not currently available: the break-out of interstate claims, Louisiana unemployment insurance claimants' parish of residence, unemployment insurance claims by industry and UI claimants who have received at least one check during the reference month in Louisiana.
