Initial unemployment insurance claims dropped for week ending Dec. 29

BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Dec 29, 2018 dropped to 1,509 from the previous week’s total of 2,184. For a comparison, during the week ending Dec 30, 2017, 1,688 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 2,125 from the previous week’s average of 2,396.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending Dec 29, 2018 increased to 16,234 from the previous week’s total of 16,126. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 19,517 for the week ending Dec 30, 2017.

The four-week moving average of continued claims increased to 15,933 from the previous week’s average of 15,803.
