Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending Sept. 21

BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Sept. 21, 2019 dropped to 1,653 from the previous week’s total of 1,806. For a comparison, during the week ending Sept. 22, 2018, 1,836 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 1,756 from the previous week’s average of 1,836.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending Sept. 21, 2019 decreased to 14,515 from the previous week’s total of 14,792. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 15,785 for the week ending Sept. 22, 2018.

The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 15,050 from the previous week’s average of 15,457.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) has countless tools both in person and online to help claimants file and process their claims. This is in addition to the agency’s 62 local offices statewide, job fairs, training programs, apprenticeship opportunities and numerous other services.
