Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending June 5

BATON ROUGE – The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending June 5, 2021 dropped to 5,569 from the week ending May 29, 2021 total of 5,573. For a comparison, during the week ending June 6, 2020, 21,879 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 5,861 from the previous week’s average of 6,251.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending June 5, 2021 increased to 50,040 from the week ending May 29, 2021 total of 47,680. The continued claims were below the comparable figure of 305,083 for the week ending June 6, 2020.

The four-week moving average of continued claims decreased to 50,119 from the previous week’s average of 50,248.
